Dr. micha cárdenas directs the Poetic Operations Collaborative, a design research lab at the University of Washington Bothell applying technological creativity to advance social justice. She is Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences and Interactive Media Design at the University of Washington | Bothell. cárdenas is an artist/theorist who creates and studies mobile media to reduce violence and increase health. cárdenas’ forthcoming book, Shifting Poetics uses practice-based research to understand trans of color movement in digital media, where movement includes migration, performance and mobility.
Frances Lee is a graduate student in the Masters of Arts in Cultural Studies program at the University of Washington Bothell. Their work straddles several disciplines, including technology, art, community interventions, and public scholarship. Frances has most recently worked in the Austin/Seattle corporate tech industry and are a trained UI/UX Designer (design portfolio). Their other projects include leading the design and development of the 2017 King County Trans Resource and Referral Guide, writing a queer kinship column for Catalyst Wedding magazine, and running an experimental community reading group on Rethinking Social Justice.
